Helps to Prayer

If there is any unresolved sin in your life, then that sin must be the first thing that you pray about.

  • Turn AWAY from your sin.
  • Confess your sin to God, and repent of it.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9

If I regard iniquity in my heart, These Lord will not hear.
Psalm 66:18

These sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.
Prov 15:8

Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
John 9:31

For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.
1 Pet 3:12
Pray with honesty and sincerity   The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. Psalm 145:18
Pray with faith   And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. Mt 21:22

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
Jam 1:6

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Mark 11:24
Pray with God's will in mind   Now this is the confidence that we have in God, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
1 John 5:14
Pray in Jesus name. {A prayer which is TRULY "in Jesus name" will be the same prayer that Jesus would pray if He were in your place, facing the situations you are now facing.}   {Jesus said...} And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13
Pray earnestly. Persist. Never lose heart. Never give up!   Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving Col 4:2

Pray with boldness, because your *High Priest* is Lord Jesus. {Boldness means "having confidence in God's love, kindness, and understanding." It does NOT mean praying in a prideful or irreverent manner -- see the panel below.}   We do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Heb 4:15-16
Pray with humility. Humble yourself before God.   Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. Dan 9:3

Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother.
Psalm 35:13-14

{God said...} If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chron 7:14
Pray with thankfulness and praise in your heart   Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God Philipp 4:6

Therefore by Him
{Jesus} let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. Heb 13:15

giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
Eph 5:20

{Jesus} Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. Luke 5:16
